In any military operation, there are a lot of logistics that need to be handled. Troops, armored vehicles, artillery, and other weapon systems need to be moved over long distances. Food, fuel, and other supplies are also essential to any military effort. Therefore, building a good supply train is essential to have any measurable success on the battlefield. This is a fact that enemy states and entities know too well, and therefore, they are always looking to set up ambushes to disrupt a military's supply chain, and take out targets that might be less protected than others.
In Iraq and Afghanistan, the US forces had to always be on the lookout for ambushes. Terrorists and insurgents would place
IEDs on supply routes, and when they would blow up, they took out military vehicles and could halt an entire military convoy carrying troops and supplies, making them a prime target for a quick ambush.
Moreover, when high-ranking military officers are moving from one place to another, they are at risk of being ambushed. The attacker may look to assassinate high-value targets, or even kidnap them for intelligence extraction.
Such attacks can be very deadly and dangerous, and therefore, proper training to deal with them is essential. The military already uses several techniques to prepare soldiers for such situations, however, for a truly immersive and realistic training experience, they need to consider using modern combat simulators.
